Winter 2019 Classic Exchange CW

The CW Classic Exchange will take place Sunday Jan 13 1300Z to Jan 14 0700Z and Tuesday Jan 15 1300Z to Jan 16 0700Z

The CX is a no-pressure contest celebrating the older commercial and Home Brew equipment that was
the pride and joy of ham shacks many decades ago. The object is to encourage restoration, operation
and enjoyment of this older Classic equipment.

You need not operate a Classic rig to participate in the CX. You may use any rig in the contest
although new gear is a distinct scoring disadvantage as your multipliers are directly related to the age
of the equipment you use! However, you can still work the "great ones" with modern equipment.

Bonus Points for the Winter 2019 CX:

Bonus #1: 500 Points for each dynamotor powered TX and RX that is qualified.

Bonus #2: 500 Points for each Johnson transmitter, amplifier, SSB adapter, and VFO that is qualified.

Bonus #3: 500 Points for each Knight transmitter, receiver, and VFO that is qualified.

2000 points max for each bonus per mode.

Tower help request #arrl #hamradio

 I sent email to some OKC area ham clubs asking for assistance in
locating someone to help me erect a tower. I expressed desire to hire a
tower dog or if a club took it on as a project I could enrich their
club's coffers.

I got no response. Previously I asked for recommendations on the
trading email reflector and got one nibble who asked a couple questions
and went silent.

Previously I had asked for recommendations and got one, an actual tower
dog who works cell sites. He came, talked, looked, and disappeared.
Subsequent contacts did not cause a work party to materialize.

The tower is a new Tashjian DX70 that is about 23 ft long when collapsed
and weighs about 2300 lbs. I can easily rent something that can lift
more than 2500 lbs over 25 ft in the air but I can't operate it and put
in the bolts at the same time. Safety demands a minimum of 2 people.

Text and Drive Attorney General Opinion

Two years ago, I submitted an amendment to the TEXTING Bill [Trooper
Nicholas Dees and Trooper Keith Burch Act of 2015].

Instead of filing it, my Representative sent it to the Oklahoma Attorney
General for an opinion.  

Here are the questions that my Rep presented to the AG …..



1.    Is a “ham radio” an “electronic commination device” as that term is
defined in 47 O.S.Supp.2017, § 11-901d(F)(3)?
2.    Is the use of a “ham radio” while operating a motor vehicle
prohibited by 47 O.S.Supp.2017, § 11-901d?



It is, therefore, the official Opinion of the Attorney General that:



1.    Under 47 O.S.Supp.2017, § 11-901d, only amateur radios that are
hand-held and capable of manually transmitting text-based messages qualify
as “electronic communication devices”
2.    Under 47 O.S.Supp.2017, § 11-901d, the only use of an amateur radio
that is prohibited is manually composing, sending, or reading a text-based
message while operating a moving motor vehicle.

Looks to me that we are “exempt” from the texting bill, unless you can think
of a way from the above that we could violate it …… maybe with a hand-held
digital mode, but you need to be moving in a MVehicle?

And this is “law” unless overturned by a court decision.
