Tour DeMeers help wanted #ARRL #hamradio

Meers --- Area amateur radio operators are being asked to volunteer for the annual Tour DeMeers Bike Ride scheduled for May 24, according to Justin Holder, KB7CSW, from Lawton.

"We will be using the Automatic Packet Reporting System (APRS)," he said.  "Due to the location of some parts of some of the routes, hams equipped with mobile radios are needed for the event."

The APRS system allows resources to be tracked on a map at the command post.  It also allows for text messaging between units equipped with the devices.

Tour DeMeers is a fundraiser for the Meers Fire Department.

To volunteer, contact Holder at 719-440-0349 or email kb7csw@yahoo.com

For more information about Tour DeMeers, visit http://tourdemeers.org/ while http://aresok.org/ will give additional information about amateur radio.

Happy Birthday Samuel Morse #ARRL #hamradio

That's right, today, in Massachusetts, the famous co-inventor of Morse Code was born.

Hams either loved the Code or hated it.  There's two versions of Code.  The American Morse Code is different from the International Morse Code.  The latter is the Code what ham radio operators use.

What are you doing to celebrate the birth of the man who helped invent the Code?  Nothing?  Well, it's Babe Ruth Day today then.

Tour De Tulsa Help Wanted #ARRL #hamradio

Volunteers are needed to work SAG and rest stops for the Tour de Tulsa
bicycle ride coming up on May 3, according to Jay, AD5PE.

This all day event is a 100 mile bike tour of west Tulsa and Creek County
(along with shorter routes). We need 10-12 hams primarily to SAG - patrol
the route looking for riders having problems (medical, mechanical, or just
wore out - it is the first ride of the season). It helps to have a vehicle
that can haul a rider or two and their bikes, but this is not essential.
There are also stationary spots if your vehicle isn't up to that. A
dual-band mobile also is useful as we may use the Tulsa Amateur Radio Club link system due to
the large area to cover - but we'll use 2 meters too, so if you don't have
UHF, we just keep you closer to town. Same thing for HTs - we can keep you
closer to the repeater or loan you a mag mount. We even have loaner radios.

This is a fun and laid back event, and great practice for directed nets.
Consider it ARES training if you're new or need a refresher.

Linking your radio to the world #ARRL #Hamradio

Our friends at Remote Ham Radio, recently wrote, The current ARRL DXCC rules state the following:

9. All stations must be contacted from the same DXCC entity. The location of any station shall be defined as the location of the transmitter. For the purposes of this award, remote operating points must be located within the same DXCC entity as the transmitter and receiver.

This statement clearly outlines the rules for remote stations. In short, if you are in the U.S., you can use any U.S. station to make a contact toward DXCC, remote or otherwise.

Previously this so-called Rule 9 stated that contacts must be made "from within a radius of 150 miles of the initial location", but the wording was changed in 1977 to account for an increasingly-mobile

Beginning with EcholinkThe Internet Radio Linking Project, the Allstar Network and RemoteHams.com, more and more are growing interested in putting their local radio assets on the internet for others to use.

Are you working on linking your radio to the World?  Let us know.
